Gets Committee Okay
Sullivan County Court jail committee chairman, Wilfred Gillenwater, left, and committee member Eugene Mahaffey, look over day room and cell block at new jail. Entire interior of building is painted in a pleasing color scheme including iron bars of cells which are “grotto green.” Individual cells in each block may be opened and closed one at a time or all together by remote control panel outside block, affording safety for the guards. Area where committee members stand is used by prisoners during day.
Bastille Scene
Some of the 23 prisoners remaining in the second-story cellblock in the Sullivan County jail, from which four prisoners escaped Friday night or Saturday morning, while awaiting the time until their scheduled transfer Wednesday to the new jail at Blountville.
